Romero Britto (b. 1963, Brazil) Two images matted and framed. The upper piece features the artist’s hand-written (unauthenticated) signature, dedication, and date (1997) all in silver ink. The image on the poster is based on Britto’s “Mickey’s World” and was used to advertise a Japanese exhibition. Depicted is a stylized Mickey Mouse at the center, whose face is a globe and is set against an undulating, checkered background of geometric patterns. The image below is a stretched Romero Britto design textile featuring a bathing suit-clad man and woman in the artist’s familiar colorful, patchwork style. There are some scratches on the 25 x 19-inch, pink-toned frame.

Romero Britto is a Brazilian artist, painter, serigrapher, and sculptor whose distinct graphic style blends Pop Art with Cubist-like abstraction. He is known for his colorful illustrations and artwork featuring fractured patches of geometric patterns and texture. Vibrant, iconic imagery and fun patterns with bright colors and joyful subject matter characterize his work and reflect his optimistic view of the world around him. In 1997, he was one of a handful of artists chosen by Walt Disney Art Classics to use his art style using Disney characters.
