R.C. Gorman (1931 – 2005, Native American) “Pensive Woman” (1979) Fine art offset lithograph of a barefoot Navajo woman wearing white who appears to be lost in thought. The print is signed in graphite in the plate (“R.C. Gorman 1979”) in the lower left corner. This image was also used to advertise an exhibition of Gorman’s work at the Suzanne Brown Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. The sheet measures approximately 17 x 21 inches, and it has been double matted and placed in a 22.25 x 28.25-inch thin black frame.
Rudolph Carl Gorman (July 26, 1931 - November 3, 2005) was a Native American artist of the Navajo Nation and was born in Chinle, Arizona. His father, Carl, was one of the original twenty-nine Navajo Code Talkers. Referred to as 'the Picasso of American Indian artists' by The New York Times, his paintings are primarily of Native American women and characterized by fluid forms and vibrant colors. He was also known for his work in sculpture, ceramics, and stone lithography.
