John Millei (b. 1958, California) “Symbol of Self” (1988) Oil painting on a constructed wooden circle measuring, 30.33 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick along the rim. The work of art is hand signed and includes the medium (oil on wood), size, date, and title on the verso. The wood itself shows signs of a drying network of fine cracks on the surface, possibly intentional, otherwise the piece is in good condition.
Millei is a contemporary painter whose work has been seen in national and international art galleries and museums. He is known for the use of secondary colors in his abstract and expressionist works using thick brush strokes of paint in organic and geometric shapes.
