Hermann Lederle (born 1958, West Germany) “Backside Nude on Gold” (circa early 2000’s) is an oil and gold leaf painting on canvas in the manner of cubism. The surface is divided into squares upon which the contour of the back side of a female figure appears in simple black lines with blots of turquoise, yellow and green color. The gold leaf in the background of the canvas changes dramatically depending on how and where the sun (or light) hits it transforming the painted imagery. The painting measures 24 x 24 x 1.5 inches and is in good condition with minor surface soiling.
Hermann Lederle is a critically admired artist currently living and working in Los Angeles. He studied in Germany and received a formal fine arts education at the San Francisco Art Institute.
