Michel Delacroix (b. 1933, France) “Le Grand Sapin” (The Big Fir Tree – 1986) Hand signed and numbered ix/cl (9 of 150) in pencil in the lower margin. This limited-edition color lithograph on paper features a quaint Parisian neighborhood in December. Men with a ladder are decorating a tall Christmas tree with lights while children are playing, and people are admiring the festive décor as they pass by. The image is 19 x 23 inches, and the work of art measures 33 x 37 inches with fillet, linen mat, and metallic wood frame wired for hanging. (The piece has not been examined outside the frame.)
Delacroix re-creates old Paris in a naive, primitive style similar to folk art featuring horse drawn carriages, gas-lit lamps, hot air balloons, and bustling streets as well as the distinct architecture of the city. His work may be seen in museums, private collections, and galleries world-wide.
