Enrique Zanartu (1921 – 2000, French/Chilean) “Paysage Fuyant” (Fleeing Landscape-1959) Limited edition color etching and aquatint, numbered 21/50 in the lower left margin, titled in the lower center, and signed/dated ’59 by the artist in pencil in the lower right. The 12.5 x 9.5-inch image has been matted with beige linen and metallic silver and placed in a 24.5 x 18.5-inch black metal frame.
Zanartu was a painter, educator and printmaker whose abstract art was influenced by the landscapes and isolation of Chile. His work creates the illusion of spaces of psychological tension through organic objects. He held numerous one man and collective shows and has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide including Europe, the United States and Latin America, primarily in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.
