Information from the Findlay Galleries website: Nicola Simbari’s unique style is referred to as “simbaresco.” He was a self-described figurative artist because his greatest interest was in people. Works were a combination of light, brilliant color, and dramatic quality. He used only the finest canvases and mixed his own pigments from colors that had been ground by members of an Italian family that had been in the business for 300 years. He used paintbrushes only for background and did his detail work by selecting from a set of 25 different sizes of palette knives.
