Walasse Ting (1929 – 2010) Untitled lithograph (1979) is based on the image Ting created and used for the 1954 Studio Paul Facchetti Exhibition Poster for Ting’s very first solo gallery exhibition at Facchetti’s Paris Studio, October 29 to November 18, 1954. In the early 1950’s, while in Paris, Ting was painting abstractions combined with a Chinese calligraphic line. The limited-edition lithograph is signed by the artist and designated number 9/50. The 24 x 19-inch sheet has been matted and placed in a frame measuring 30.5 x 24.5 inches. Written on the verso of the sheet in pencil are, ‘Maestro by Alechensky’; ‘921034’; and ‘Walasse Ting, litho originale’. COA is from Picenum. Last photo is the 1954 exhibition poster.
Belgian artist, Pierre Alechinsky discovered Walasse Ting sleeping on boards in a tiny attic room in Paris and the two soon became lifelong friends. Ting was then accepted by the COBRA artistic group: Karel Appel, Asger Jorn and his friend Alechinsky.
