(Attributed to) Louis Icart (1888 – 1950, French) “Faraway Gaze” was created as one 25 copperplate etchings Icart illustrated for the 1938 publication of the Alexandre Dumas book, “La Dame aux Camelias.” This color image depicts a woman with long dark hair wearing a white formal evening gown. She is gazing wistfully out an open window. The work is signed in graphite “Louis Icart” in the lower right margin by an unknown hand and it is beautifully matted and framed. The image measures 7.5 x 5.5 inches, and with the frame, it is 27 x 25 inches.
