Baby Grand

(After) John Lennon (1940 – 1980, U.K.) “Baby Grand” – Limited edition lithograph after the sketch by Lennon and authorized by Yoko Ono for the John Lennon Estate, copyright 1988, and published by Bruce McGaw Graphics. The sheet measures 36 x 24 inches, and the image is 15.25 x 19.5 inches. The piece is numbered 331/5000 in pencil below the lower left of the image and in the lower right of the image, John Lennon's chopmark stamp is in red and reads, in Japanese, "Like a Cloud, Beautiful Sound." An embossed blind stamp seal consisting of a reproduction of Lennon’s signature and transparent green foil ink is centered under the image on the sheet of #90 Fieldstone Navajo Paper.

This joyful image is based on John Lennon’s ink drawing depicting himself looking outward while composing music and song. Presumably, he is sitting at the white baby grand piano in the living room of the Lennon home at the Dakota apartment building in New York. Creative ideas seem to flow into his head from one direction as his fingers touch the keys and musical notes and flowers appear to rise out and up from a hat sitting atop the piano.
