Alexandra Nechita (b. 1985, Romanian American) “Miss Maui” (1999) As a young teenager, former child prodigy, Alexandra Nechita created “Miss Maui” as an original acrylic painting on canvas. The cubist-style image in bold colors was then published a year later (2000) in the form of this hand-pulled limited-edition lithograph on Arches paper. It is pencil signed by the artist in the lower right and numbered 182/199 with the blind stamp of printer, Mourlot Atelier – Paris in the lower left. The image measures 22.5 x 18 inches, the sheet is 35.5 x 23.75, and the unframed work of art has been double matted with hand wrap black linen and embellished with gold fillet measuring 37 x 33 inches; ready to be framed.
In her own words, Nechita described the inspiration for this image: ‘On my journey around the world I have seen many beautiful places and met many wonderful people. One special highlight was Maui. I immediately felt a magnetic attraction to the sights, the smell of the air and the people. On this tiny island, I saw the clearest, cleanest and most penetrating blues, greens and yellows of the tropics. I loved learning about the traditions of Hawaii. I loved the hospitable people, the dancers, the music and, of course, the food. “Miss Maui” is a beautiful woman who symbolizes all of my impressions of Maui. I also miss Maui, its flowers, plants and people.’ – Alexandra Nechita
