Albrecht Durer (after) (1471 – 1528, German) “The Holy Family with Five Angels” – this is a woodcut on fine laid paper by a late 19th century master engraver ‘after’ the original (1503 – 1505) woodcut by Durer. Included in the woodblock is the monogram of the original artist (“AD” on a slate) in the lower right. In this tender scene, the Virgin Mary is feeding the Christ child while five angels and God above are watching. The image measures 8.25 x 5.75 inches and has been encased in a modern moulded frame with triple matting measuring 17 x 15 inches. Catalogue references for Durer’s work include:
