R.C. Gorman (1931 – 2005, American) “Concho” (1979) is a limited-edition original stone lithograph in color on Arches paper. It is signed and dated by the artist in the lower left and numbered 56/125 in the with lower right. The sheet measures 22.25 x 30 inches. Known for his images of Navajo women, Gorman portrayed them in vivid color and in fluid, graceful style as strong, earth-mother types either posed or engaged in their work. A “concho” is a silver ornament used on clothing that is either stamped with a design or inlaid with stone, and in this work of art refers to the woman’s belt.
