Alexander Wissotzky, “Still Life with Fruit” is a color screen-print with each artist’s name signed in pencil in the lower left and right, numbered 352/380, and a sheet measure of 30.5 x 37.5 inches. For this work of art, a variety of elements were used in the collage including layers of paint, music composition cut-outs, a recurring image of figures dressed in 1920s fashion, and a still life bowl of fruit.
Condition: ¼ inch repaired tear upper sheet edge left, otherwise in good condition.
Alexander Wissotzky is a pen name jointly used by married couple, Tanya Wissotzky (1959-2006) and Alexander Galtchansky (1959-2008). They studied at the Kiev Institute of Arts and immigrated to Israel. She trained as an artist, and he as a book illustrator. They used calligraphy from old English flower painting manuals and stunning collage details in their works as well as calligraphic quotations from 1920’s Paris music scores. Their works are both nostalgic and romantic.
