In the Style of Victor Vasarely (Hungarian-French, 1906-1997) -"Vega-Pi" (1978) Geometric Sphere. A signed limited edition serigraph on paper, this piece is numbered "5/150" and signed by hand in graphite at the bottom. (Please note: the signature on this work of art has not been verified by an expert as authentic.) The image is from Vasarely's "Vega Series" and displays a fascinating sphere-shaped Op Art design with incredible depth, done in varying shades of green, red, blue, and purple. It features a grid of squares that appears to be bulging outward in a large circular shape. A beautiful example of the complex, illusionistic style for which Vasarely is known. This unframed piece measures approximately 10.75" x 8.25" and ships free in the USA.
Vega Structures
Inspired by contemporary news reports about mysterious signals received from distant galaxies, Vasarely named many of his works after stars and constellations. The Vega pictures rely on convex-concave distortions of a grid-like network, a sophisticated combination of the cube and the sphere, symbolically referring to the two-way motion of the light that emanates from pulsating stars, and to the functioning of condensing galaxies and the expanding universe. The common denominator in these works is Vasarely’s realization that two dimensions can be expanded into three simply by deforming the basic grid, and that, depending on the degree of enlargement or reduction, the elements in the deformed grid can be transformed into rhombuses or ellipses.
