Gustave Baumann (1881 – 1971, German-born American) “The Band” (1910) aka “June” (an illustration representing the month of June in the 1912 book of poetry, ‘All the Year Round’ by James Whitcomb Riley. See photo.) Featured is a rustic image of a small-town band playing music while walking among the trees. It is an original color woodcut on antique white wove paper, hand printed in a small (but unknown) edition circa 1911, initialed on the block by the artist in the lower right. The image measures approximately 8 x 6.5 inches, and with wood fillet, linen mat, and an ornate 3-inch gold wood frame, the work of art is 19 x 17.5 inches. Baumann is America’s premiere color woodcut engraver. The work of art is accompanied by a COA from Global Fine Art.
