Jim Dine (b. 1935, American) “Wall” (1967) aka Wolfman (Wall); Limited Edition Aquatint Etching, hand signed/dated/numbered (26/120) in pencil by the artist in the lower left. Published by Editions Alecto, London; Printed by Alecto Studios, London. The sheet measures 31 x 22 inches, and with the frame, the work of art is 36 x 25 inches. The printing reads: “THE WOLFMAN STRIKES like the dogs who look straight at me and can tell I would piss in my pants if one ever considered shaking hands. Stop the hairy beast from devouring the wall, plaster might chip his beard. This is all so much decoration. The big action takes place next door - ALWAYS DID”.
An example of Dine’s etching is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and was featured June 6, 1978 – Sept. 5, 1978 in their exhibition titled, “Jim Dine’s Etchings”. (See last photo.) An essay in the MOMA catalog for the 1978 exhibit states: “He (Dine) moved to London and embarked upon a five-year period (1967-1972) of learning the many techniques of etching and producing prints of all types at Petersburg Press.”
