Le Lagon (Lagoon) from Jazz Suite

(After) Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954, French) - "Le Lagon" (Lagoon) from the Jazz Suite. Original lithograph after the paper cut out and gouache. Printed for the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. The piece is unsigned and the image measures 15 x 23 inches. It is beautifully matted and framed at 27 x 35 inches with the vertical center fold typical of this edition. In 1947, Matisse executed this composition for Jazz, painting with gouache and then cutting maquette (preliminary drawing) shapes. In the collage, the Master artist used these simplified forms to evoke a memory of his travels to Tahiti. A Certificate of Authenticity from Global Fine Art is included.
